OBJECTIVE: In 2017, dengue infection brought a high fatality rate case in West Papua. In Fakfak especially, dengue infection continues to increase and had been the largest incidence in West Papua. We reviewed dengue fever cases at our hospital in Fakfak to evaluate our management of this infection.
METHOD: A descriptive retrospective study of dengue infected patients in Fakfak General Hospital, 2018. We collected data of clinical profile and laboratory results from medical records of 78 children aged 1 month to 13 year-old from February to March 2019. Dengue severity was classified using WHO 1997 criteria. Data was presented using SPSS 16.  
RESULT: Dengue fever (DF), dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) grades I and II, and dengue shock syndrome (grade III and IV DHF, or DSS) were diagnosed in 26 (33.3%), 40 (51.2%), and 12 (15.4%) from 78 samples. Highest incidence occurred within patients in 1-5 year-old (57.7%) category. Highest proportion of DSS (2/9 cases) was within patients in less than 1 year-old category. One case of death also occurred in this group. Male to female ratio was 1.17: 1. Fever, petechiae and abdominal pain were the most common clinical manifestation 78 (100%), 28 (3.9%), and 27 (34.6%). Leukopenia <4000/ ?L and thrombocytopenia <50.000/ ?L were mostly found in DSS (7/12 and 10/12 cases respectively). Mean hemoglobin and mean haematocrite were higher in DSS 13.92 g/dl (SD 1.796) and 43.43 % (SD 4.25). Due to the limitations of the reagent, serological tests were done in only 50 patients, that revealed primary infection (24%) and secondary infections (76%). 
CONCLUSION: Burdens that is made by cases of dengue fever is increasing, whereas our facilities are limited. We hope that there will be more facilities to ensure better management of dengue fever cases and more preventive measures to deal with infections in Fakfak.
