Backgorund: Each and every Medical Institution wishes its students for a good academic achievements. A supportive learning environment is an essential factor to elevate students’ academic performance. Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measure (PHEEM) is a questionnaire that measures students’ perception upon their learning environment. The aim of this study is to know pediatric residents’ perception upon their learning environment in Pediatric Medical Study Institution Medical Faculty Hasanuddin University.
Method: A quantitative method was used in this study with a cross-sectional data sampling by using Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measure (PHEEM) questionnaire. The subscale included perception upon the lecture, role autonomy, and social support upon educational learning environment. A total of 71 pediatric residents participated in this study with 16 of them are male (22.5%) and 55 female (77,5%) from various study level, among them are 26 juniors (33,6%), 19 madya (middle level) (26,8%), and 26 seniors (36,6%). The collected data was then analyzed based on sex and study level by using non-parametric t-test comparative statistical trial and one-way ANOVA.
Result: The mean PHEEM value for all respondents is 97,76 from a total of 160. The overall PHEEM value between sex-based group and study level-based group did not show a significant difference (p=0,387; p=0,973).
Conclusion: There were much more of positive values in comparison to negative values in clinical stage students’ perception upon learning environment during clinical clerkship in Pediatric Medical Study Institution Medical Faculty Hasanuddin University. There was no difference in perception on learning environment between sex and study level among pediatric residents.
