PROFILE OF PEDIATRIC ALLERGIC RHINITIS IN DR.SOETOMO ACADEMIC HOSPITAL DURING 2018

OBJECTIVE: Allergic rhinitis (AR) is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa associated with Immunoglobulin-E mediated hypersensitivity reaction. AR is often accompanied with co-morbid conditions such as asthma, sinusitis, otitis media and give multi-dimensional impact on quality of life. The purpose of this research was to describe the clinical pattern of allergic rhinitis in children. 
METHOD: This descriptive study involved all children with allergic rhinitis in allergic-immunology outpatient clinic Dr.Soetomo Academic Hospital during 2018. Data were evaluated from medical records. The diagnostic of allergic rhinitis was based on Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) which collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO). Collected data were demographic information, chief complaints, family allergic history, history of breast milk consumption, skin prick test (SPT) result, severity classification and co-morbid condition. 
RESULT: Seventy-one children diagnosed as allergic rhinitis, with median age 6 (1-13) year- old, 66% were male. The main complaint were runny nose (65%), nasal congestion (26%), conjunctival irritation (5%) and sneezing (22%) which some of them have multiple complaints. Almost all subjects have family allergic history and more than half got exclusive breast-milk consumption. SPT revealed house dust mites and food allergy in 59% subjects. Most of them categorized as intermittent allergic rhinitis (66%). Co-morbid condition manifest in 61% subjects, 35% were sinusitis. 
CONCLUSION : Allergic rhinitis tend to be dominated by male and manifest in children >5 year-old with intermittent type and several chief complain. Most rhinitis allergic case in our institution related with house dust mites and food allergy.
