THE ROLE OF NEUTROPHIL TO LYMPHOCYTE COUNT RATIO FOR DIAGNOSIS CRITERIA FOR ACUTE FEBRILE URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS AT ATMA JAYA HOSPITAL JAKARTA

Objective: Neutrophil to Lymphocyte Ratio (NLCR) has stronger discriminative power for predicting infection and can be used as a parameter that has high sensitivity and specificity level as a marker for infection such as Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) that has large incidences. Difficulties in diagnose UTI in children and adolescent can be simplify by NLCR. This research is to investigate the role of NLCR as diagnostic criteria in children and adolescent patients with acute febrile UTI in Atma Jaya Hospital.
Method: This study involving 44 patient age 8-18 with acute febrile UTI. This design study is cross-sectional and using medical record of patient in Atma Jaya Hospital with analytic comparative study.
Results: Comparative analysis of the data showed that the mean value of NLCR in acute febrile UTI (2,41) was higher than non-UTI (1,28) with p value < 0,001. NLCR have a significant role in discriminating UTI and non-UTI with the cut-off point of 1,760 (sensitivity 94,2%, specificity 84%, and area under the curve (AUC) 99,8%), where someone claimed as  positive acute febrile UTI in NLCR 1,760
Conclusion: The value of NLCR, which can be determined by simple methods in routine blood tests, may be used for the follow-up monitoring of children and adolescents with acute febrile UTI. This results may give an idea to clinicians for early initiation of treatment in patients with suspected acute febrile UTI and it has a role in diagnosis UTI in children and adolescents compared with healthy patients.
