OBJECTIVE
Foreign body (FB) aspiration is a life-threatening situation in childhood. Children have tendency to put any things and food in their mouth while they play. It increases the risks of aspiration into the airway. Organic and non-organic matters are common FB aspirated. The fatal outcome may take place as it could be an acute severe airway obstruction. We want to report 4 (four) cases of foreign body aspirations in Harapan Kita Women and Children Hospital that happened in April and May 2019.
CASES
We had 4 consecutive cases referred with suspected of FB aspiration. One case suffered from cough more than 2 month, and the others only for a couple of days. From CXRs we found 2 suspected cases but the other 2 were not. We used pediatric flexible bronchoscopy to retrieve the FB in 3 cases, and with rigid forcep in 1 case. The FBs found were peanut, LED lamp, an electric plug and a part of plastic toy. Acute severe stridor seen in a 2-year-old patient with a part of plastic toy stuck at the level of vocal cord. The other locations of FB found were in the left main bronchus (peanut and LED lamp) and the right main bronchus (an electric plug). There were no post retrieval complications in all those patients.
CONCLUSIONS  
FB aspiration is not uncommon problem in childhood. A careful history taking, initial clinical recognition and diagnostic can lead to proper management. Avoid playing certain things and types of food have benefit to prevent aspiration in children.
