Comparation of Macronutrient Calorie, Protein Energy Ratio in Complementary Food of Children 6-24 Months for Development Quotient Score

Background : Lack of nutrition can cause delay in growth and development which can’t be repair and permanent, it need to increment with complementary food. Quality of complementary food depend on composition and calorie amount. The aim of our study is to compare the sufficiency of macronutrient calorie, protein energy ratio for development quotient (DQ) in 6-24 months old children. Material : A cross sectional study was done on April-May 2018 at Posyandu Kenjeran Surabaya. Inclusion criteria were baby 6-24 months with aterm, normal birth weight, no asphysia, no congenital anomaly. Complementary food was evaluated by recalled during 48 hours before. Total calorie from carbohydrate, protein and fat also protein energy ratio were calculated with nutrisurvey. It cathegorized into sufficient and insufficient based on WHO guidelines for complementary food. The Score of DQ was assessed by Cognitive Adaptive Test/Clinical Linguistic and Auditory Milestone Scale (CAT/CLAMS). Comparation of macronutrient calorie, protein energy ratio for CAT/CLAMS score was done using Mann-Whitney test. Results : Fourthy children were enrolled, 18(70%) boys and 12 (30%) girls, with median age 15.41(6.4-23.67) months. Calorie per day consumed by children from carbohydrate was 238.88(30-689.20) cal, protein 88.53(24.81-202.30) cal, fat 164.83(9-4419) cal, and total calorie was 459.85 (40-1310) cal, and protein energy ratio was 14.76(6.7-29.99). The median of CLAMS DQ were 100(65-142), CAT DQ were 100(80-143), and Full Scale (FS) DQ were 98.75(77.50-212). There were no differences in sufficiency and insufficiency macronutrient calorie for CLAMS, CAT, and FS DQ (p>0.05), and it also no differences in protein energy rasio for CAT and FS DQ (p>0.05), but there was a differences between sufficiency (19.61±649.95) and insufficiency (10.58±1.76) protein energy ratio for CLAMS DQ (p=0.018) Conclusions : Insufficiency of protein energy ratio might cause language delay
