Background : Congenital anomalies are also known as birth defects, congenital disorders or congenital malformations. Congenital anomalies can be defined as structural or functional anomalies occuring during intrauterine life and can be identified prenatally, at birth, or sometimes may only be detected later in infancy. This study investigated the type of congenital anomalies in hospitalized neonates. Material : This descriptive observational study was conducted in Dr. Moewardi hospital between January 2017 and December 2017. The data were taken from the medical records of patients. Results : During the study period there were 173 neonates with congenital anomalies admitted to Dr. Moewardi Hospital comprising of 84 (48.6%) males and 89 (51.4%) females. The most common congenital anomaly presented with the low birth weight was 49 (58.4%) patients followed by normal birth weight was 35 (41.7%) patients. However, the most common congenital anomaly presented from aterm pregnancy was 46 (57.5%) patients followed by preterm pregnancy was 34 (42.5%) patients. The most common congenital anomaly was congenital heart disease (69.9%) with ASD as the most common type (79%), followed by neurological (14.5%), urogenital (9.8%), and gastrointestinal systems (8.1%) and the most common types of them were hydrocephalus (52%), atresia ani (58.8%), and gastroschizis as well as duodenum stenosis (21.4%), respectively. Conclusions : In our study, congenital anomalies were found in both genders. The most congenital anomaly presented was congenital heart disease.
