Background : Retinoblastoma is the most common solid tumor in children, occurs in childhood with over 90% being diagnosed before five years of age. More than 50 % cases of cancer in children come to the health facilities in an advanced state. Early detection and immediate referral of children with retinoblastoma increases the possibility of saving lives and eye function. The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristic of retinoblastoma signs at first hospital admission in Dr. Kariadi Hospital , Semarang during 2015-2017 Material : A descriptive study was carried out from medical record of all retinoblastoma treated in Dr.Kariadi Hospital Results : Forty three subjects consist of 24 boys and 19 girls were involved in this study. The mean age of subject was 3.16 (SD 1.80) years. The incidence of unilateral retinoblastoma was 32 (74.4%) and bilateral retinoblastoma was 11 (25.6%). Most patient’s sign were leucocoria 37 (86%), proptosis 22 (51%), loss of vision 21 (43%) and strabismus 1 (2.3%) Conclusions : All retinoblastoma patients came late to the hospital, characterized by leucocoria, proptosis, and loss of vision. We suggest that screening of retinoblastoma in children before 2 years is very important. Early screening of retinoblastoma in infant is key to save vision and life.
