Background : The most common causes of death of neonates globally are prematurity and infection. In order to decrease the neonatal mortality rate, one of the efforts is by doing early diagnosis of infection. Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) has been widely used as a diagnostic marker and a prognosis determinant on some diseases. Currently there is no available study for the reference range of normal NLR in healthy neonates. The aim of this study is to determine the reference range of normal NLR in healthy neonates, with the expectation that in the future, NLR will be able to become a diagnostic marker for diseases and abnormalities in neonates. Material : This is a descriptive and retrospective study with cross sectional method. A total of 130 samples were collected through medical records and chosen by consecutive sampling method. The collected samples were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Spearman’s correlation test using SPSS version 23.0. Results : The result of this study shows that the reference range of normal NLR in healthy neonates is 2,7 – 4,1 and the correlation between NLR and I/T ratio is weak and statistically not significant. Conclusions : The reference range of normal NLR in healthy neonates is 2,7 – 4,1 and the correlation of NLR with I/T ratio is weak and statistically insignificant. Through the identification of the reference range of normal NLR in healthy neonates, it is expected to assist in the early diagnosis of diseases and other disorders in neonates that may help reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality rate.
