Background : Neonatal sepsis is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality. According to WHO, neonatal sepsis death rate is 26% of all neonatal deaths worldwide. The highest mortality rate comes from developing countries is approximately 30-50% of total neonatal deaths. Indonesia as a developing country with lack of cost and limited facilities, early identification of risk factors in neonatal sepsis may reduce mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors of early onset neonatal sepsis in Cianjur hospital, West Java. Material : It was a retrospective case control study, conducted at Neonatal Care Unit of Cianjur hospital, West Java from January-March 2016. Data were evaluated with Chi-square, and also data analyses were performed with SPSS version 20.0. For all tests, the 95% confidence interval was calculated and p<0.05 was considered statistically significant. It was said to be significantly associated with sepsis risk factor if value of p <0.05. Results : From the 1187 infants who was born with risk factors of neonatal sepsis, 267 infants were diagnosed with early onset neonatal sepsis. There were significantly correlation between both maternal and neonatal risk factors with sepsis, which is the associated maternal risk factors were premature rupture of membranes (p = 0.000, OR 2.759, CI 95% 2.053-3.708) and meconium-stained amniotic fluid (MSAF) (p = 0.000, OR 1.906, CI 95% 1.356-2.679), and also the associated neonatal risk factors were prematurity (p = 0.000, OR 3.906, CI 95% 2.940-5.190), asphyxia (p = 0.000, OR 2.554, CI 95% 1.854-3.518), and low birth weight (p = 0.000, OR 3.580, CI 95% 2.691-4.763). Conclusions : The risk factors of early onset neonatal sepsis are premature rupture of membranes, meconium-stained amniotic fluid (MSAF), prematurity, asphyxia, and low birth weight.
