Background : Prematurity is the first leading cause of neonatal mortality. Indonesia itself has the incidence of prematurity approximately 35% and has a major role of neonatal mortality. East Nusa Tenggara is one of the provinces in eastern Indonesia with a high rate of neonatal death (26/1,000 live births) compared to the national rate of 20/1,000 live births. Material : The research population are all babies with risk factors who were referred to Umbu Rara Meha General Hospital on November 2017 to April 2018. This research is an analytic study with case control design and retrospective studies of 60 samples. Research instrument used is Medical Record. Data were analyzed by chi-square test for bivariate and logistic regression for multivariate. Results : The results showed that there was a significant association between anemia (p: 0,001; OR: 9.000; 95% CI: 2.239-36.171) and Pre-labor Rupture of Membrane (p: 0,027; OR: 3.500; 95% CI: 1.112-11.017) of preterm birth. We continued to analyze both of risk factors with logistic regression that showed anemia was the only significant factor in this research. (p=0,002). Preeclampsia, Ante Natal Care (ANC) under standard, Gestational Hypertension, Pulmonal Tuberculosis, High risk age of pregnancy, and Gemelli showed no significantly relationship with the occurrence of premature labor. Conclusions : Anemia in pregnancy is the only risk factor on the incidence of preterm birth in Umbu Rara Meha General Hospital. It is recommended that ANC during pregnancy is necessary due to anemia screening and its interventions to prevent preterm birth and decrease neonatal mortality.
