Background : Neonatal sepsis is still a major medical problem worldwide with high mortality. The proper antibiotics utilisation regulated by AMR stewardship program is very important for handling neonatal sepsis. Objective: to compare blood culture results of perinatology patients before and during AMR project.
Material : observational analytic study involves data from microbiology department before AMR project (2015) and during AMR stewardhsip program which was started by 2016. We use multivariate and bivariate analysis to compare the results.
Results : In 2015, 238 specimens were obtained from 234 patients. 107 specimens were sterile, 46 from 131 (35.11%) were Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus thus considered contaminant, 85 specimens (64.88%) were true pathogen. During 2016, 440 specimens were obtained from 383 patients. 255 were sterlie, 80 from 185 (43.24%) were Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus, 105 specimens (56.75%) were true pathogen. In 2017, 818 specimens were obtained from 509 patients, 518 were sterile, 119 from 300 (39.66%) were Coagulase Negative Staphylococcus, 181 specimens (60.33%) showed true pathogen. Klebsiella pneumoniae ss.Pneumoniae is the most frequent etiology of neonatal sepsis during 2015 (28.23%), 2016 (43.80%), and 2017 (49.17%). In 2017, 1.65% specimens were Candida albicans.
Conclusions : The number of speciment sent to microbiology department was increased during the AMR stewardship program, there were still fluctuative results of the true pathogen bacteria in neonatal sepsis each year.
