PROFILE OF NEONATAL PNEUMONIA IN PERINATOLOGY WARD M DJAMIL HOSPITAL PADANG

Background : Pneumonia is an inflammatory process that can be local or systemic in the pulmonary parenchym. Abnormality airway patency, ventilation of alveolar and also perfussion often occur due to various mechanisms. This situation can significantly alter the exchange of gas and cell metabolism that support many tissues and organs and contribute to the quality of life of a person. Infectious agents in neonatal pneumonia are generally bacteria rather than viruses. It is estimated that pneumonia contributes in between 750,000 and 1.2 million neonatal mortality per year.
Material : To determine the incidence rate, the risk factors and neonatal outcome of neonate diagnosed as neonatal pneumonia who admitted in perinatology ward of M. Djamil Hospital Padang.
Results : A review was retrospectively carried out on all admissions of neonate in perinatology ward from 1 January 2015 until 31 Desember 2017 with diagnosis neonatal pneumonia. We obtained personal characteristic of sex, birth weight, age on first admitted, labour process, gestational age, birth place, birth assistant, APGAR score, concomitant condition, clinical sign, supporting examination (laboratory and radiology), outcome and predisposing factors from the mother.
Conclusions : A total 214 patients diagnosed neonatal pneumonia during the study of three-year period, then analyzed meet the criteria was 121 babies (56,5%) included to this study. There were some risk factors obtained such as early of the age (66%), more in male gender (62%), sectio caesarea (55,3%), aterm (62,8%), normal birth weight (48%), born in other hospital (47,9%), with help by obstetricians, moderate respiratory distress, tachypnea (96%), acidosis metabolic (37,2%), hyperbilirubinemia (52,1%), mortality rate 42,1%. The significant different from outcome was birth body weight and white blood cell.
