OUTCOME OF CHILDREN WITH END STAGE RENAL DISEASE AT RSUP PROF DR RD KANDOU MANADO

Background : 2.5 - 4% of children from every million children under 16 years suffer from chronic kidney disease every year. Chronic kidney disease, especially End Stage Renal Disease is a non-reversible condition and causes high morbidity and mortality. Therapeutic modalities for children with End Stage Renal Disease is treatment with renal replacement therapy either by dialysis or transplantation. The aim of this study is to know the outcome of children with end stage renal disease at RSUP Prof. Dr.R.D.Kandou.
Material : The study was descriptive cross-sectional studies with data collected from medical records for the period November 2013 to February 2018. Population is children diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease.
Results : Subject (n = 34) with End Stage Renal Disease in RSUP Prof. Dr.R.D.Kandou Manado, 26 of whom are girls and 8 boys. Average age upon first diagnosis is 10,6 (SD 2.4) years. Therapeutic modalities for these patients were hemodialysis (5.8%), continuous peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) (8.8%), and conservative therapy (85%). Twenty children (58%) died, 7 children lost on follow up, and 7 other children survived.
Conclusions : The mortality rate of pediatric patients with end stage renal disease is still high due to the limitation of hemodialysis handling in RSUP Prof DR. RD Kandou.
