Background : Congenital Anomalies Kidney and Urinary Tract (CAKUT) are the leading cause of kidney failure in children and cause of 30-40% end-stage renal disease with obstructive uropathy as the main cause. CAKUT obstructive type are: vesico uretric junction obstruction (VUJO), pelvic uretric junction obstruction (PUJO), posterior uretral valve (UJO) and non-obstructive type are reflux, neurogenic and hypoplasia. The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiology of pediatric CAKUT at RSUD Dr. Soetomo Surabaya.
Material : Retrospective study from medical records of children with CAKUT at Dr. Hospital. Soetomo from April 2013 - April 2018. We focused on sex, age range, type of CAKUT and glomerulus filtration (GFR) rate value. Data processing using descriptive analysis with SPSS.
Results : A total of 94 Children on CAKUT abnormalities, 50.5% male. Median age 5.0 (SD 4.96, range 1-18) year. Median age onset of CAKUT 3.0 (SD 3.98, range 1-15) year. Symptom for obstructive type 50.5% and non-obstructive type 48.4%, most common CAKUT type in male were VUJO 18 (37.5%, p= 0.009) and in female neurogenic type 16 (34.8%, p = 0.031). Median basal glomerular filtration rate 102 (SD 56.28, range 2.7 - 266) ml/min/1.73 m2. Only 12 (12.6 %) patients need operative therapy.
Conclusions : CAKUT with dominant obstructive type is more common in male pediatric patient. Most of CAKUT can be handle with conservative therapy.
