Relationship between Nutritional Status with the Length of Hospitalization in Children Under Five with Pneumonia

Background : Pneumonia is a parenchymal lung inflammation, mostly caused by microorganisms (virus or bacteria). Pneumonia is still a mojor health problem in children in developing countries and cause of morbidity and mortality of children under five. Many factors affect the treatment duration of pneumonia in the hospital one of them is nutritional status. Material : This study is an observational analytic with cross-sectional approach, the subjects in this study were all pneumonia toddler who were treated at Hermina Hospital Balikpapan in Mei of 2017 until April of 2018. The entire subject of study is 102 patiemt, consisting of 47 patient with good nutritional status, 44 patient malnutrition, and 11 patient with poor nutritional status. Then the data obtained were analyzed with Chi-Square difference test with SPSS 17.0. Results : From the analysis of the length hospitalization in children under five with pneumonia on malnutrition and good nutrition, Chi- aquare test results showed x 2= 6,91, p value 0,001, 95 % CI 0,982 to 1,256. Conclusions : Based on these test results can be concluded that there was a relationship between nutritional status with the length of hospitalization in children under five with pneumonia.
