PREDICTORS OF MORTALITY IN SEPSIS WITHIN 24 HOURS ADMISSION IN PEDIATRIC INTENSIVE CARE UNIT AT DR PIRNGADI GENERAL HOSPITAL MEDAN

Background : Sepsis is still become one of the major cause of death in children worldwide. Organ damages which are marked by the presence of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) increases mortality in sepsis patients. Early diagnose and assesment of organ functions can be used as predictors of mortality in sepsis.
Material : This was a cross sectional and retrospective study. Children who were diagnosed with sepsis and died within 24 hours admission in pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of Dr. Pirngadi General Hospital Medan between 2013 and 2017 were included. Predictors of mortality collected from medical record and multivariate analysis was used to data analysis
Results : From 194 samples in total, procalcitonin (p = 0,001) and pO2 (p = 0,014) has significant correlations between sepsis and mortality within 24 hours with p < 0,05
Conclusions : Procalcitonin and pO2 can be use as predictors of mortality in children with sepsis within 24 hours of admission in pediatric intensive care unit
