ESTABLISHING NEONATAL REGISTRY IN INDONESIA:
SMALL STEP FOR FUTURE GENERATION

Introduction:With almost four million birth every year, Indonesia has one of the highest birth rate in Asia. Along with it, basic characteristic and any potential risk factors during neonatal period should be identified and recorded. Therefore, neonatal registry should be established soon.
Method: We collect 1-year period data from 17neonatal center across 13 province, consist of teaching hospital, semi-private hospital, and private hospital in 2017. Data consist of birth profile based on birth weight and gestational age, survival rate,and short-termmorbidity such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), and intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH).
Result:From 15.964 birth recorded, 20.9 – 49.9% were low birth weight and 5.3 – 66.6% were premature. Survival rate for extremely preterm, moderate preterm, late preterm, and term neonates was 23.6-53.9%, 72,3 – 76%, and 84-93,1%, and 90-99,6%, respectively. The incidence of BPD, IVH, and ROP were less than 5%, although NEC was vary from 0,3-13,3%. High preterm birth rate, all found in teaching hospital, was a consequence of national insurrance policy of gradual referral system in Indonesia. Most of term delivery in primary care clinic is not recorded. Problems in establishing neonatal registry wereabout data entry, regularity of monthly/yearly report, and data format agreement.
Conclusion:Although data collected could not be generalized, this was a good start for Indonesia. A principal leader should be appointed to ensure the quality of neonatal registry data. Overall, quality of neonatal care in Indonesia is good but need to be improved in the future.
