CLINICAL PROFILE OF SEPSIS ASSOCIATED ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY AT PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY

Background : Sepsis and septic shock was remain the important cause of acute kidney injury and associated strongly with the poor outcome. Sepsis associated acute kidney injury (SA AKI) is defined by acute kidney injury in the presence of sepsis without another significant contributing factor explaining acute kidney injury. Present study was conducted to determine the profile of SA AKI at pediatric emergency.
Material : The data was retrospectively collected from the Hasan Sadikin Hospital Sepsis Registry during one year. AKI was defined and classified according to modified pRIFLE (risk injury failure loss end stage renal disease) criteria.
Results : A total of 205 children with sepsis were included in this study, 68 (33,17%) developed SA AKI, consist of 34 (50%) had risk, 19 (27,94%) had injury and 15 (22,05%) had failure. Female and the age group < 5 years had a higher occurrence of SA AKI. The mortality rate of our study population was 33,04%.
Conclusions : Sepsis associated acute kidney injury had a poor outcome, and greater the category of the AKI, the mortality was higher.
