Background : Asthma is a complex and chronic inflammatory disorder which is associated with airway hyper-responsiveness and tissue remodelling of the airway structure. One of cells which is recognized to play a major role in asthma pathogenesis is eosinophil. The presence of eosinophils in asthma inflammation is a relevant factor in the pathophysiology of the disease Eosinophil release a variety of mediators that will damage airway epithelium and cause inflammation. Material : A review was retrospectively carried out on all admissions of patient’s with exacerbation of asthma occurring in pediatric ward of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang between January 2015-December 2017. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test, with significance p <0.05. Data were analyzed using SPSS software. Results : A total 60 patients that acquired during the study of two-year period. More than half of respondents had intermittent asthma (71.6%), mild persistent asthma (15%), and each moderate and severe persistent asthma ( 6.7%). The results are 40 patients had low normal BEC level 0-1% (66,7%), 15 patients had normal BEC level 2-4%(15%), 5 patients had high BEC level >4% (8%), and there is 58% patient with atopy. There is no significant correlation of BEC level with severity of asthma (p value 0,057). Conclusions : Blood eosinophil count (BEC) level in asthma patient is mostly low normal and there is no correlation of BEC level with severity of asthma
