THE PREVALENCE OF CLINICAL ILLNESS IN STUNTED CHILDREN AT DR MOEWARDI HOSPITAL SURAKARTA

Background : The number of stunting children in Asia is estimated 56%, and Indonesia is on the 5th rank in the world. Indonesian stunting children are getting bigger in number, Indonesia basic health research (Riskesdas) 2013 data reported 37.2% Indonesian children were stunted and this number is higher than those of in 2007 and 2010 (36.8% and 35.6% respectively). One of the most significant risk factor that contributing to Stunted is chronic disease. This study describes the prevalence of clinical illness in stunted pediatric patients in Dr. Moewardi Hospital.
Material : This descriptive study was conducted in Dr. Moewardi Hospital. The secondary data were taken from medical record of all pediatric patient in the hospital. Stunting was defined as their height/length-for-age is more than two standard deviations below the WHO Child Growth Standards median. Clinical illness risk factor was shown in percentage.
Results : Congenital heart disease (19.2%) was the most common disease, followed by thalassemia (17,8%), malignancy (16.4%), epilepsy (5.8%), HIV infection (5%), nephrotic syndrome (4.5%), GIT Infection (3.3%), respiratory infection (2.8%), cholestasis (2.5%), hydrocephalus (2.5%), and other diseases (20.2%) including hemophilia, congenital anomaly, achondroplasia, autoimmune disease, etc.
Conclusions : Congenital heart disease (19.2%) is the most common clinical illness among stunted pediatric patient in Dr. Moewardi Hospital
