THE FACTOR AFFECTING STUNTING ON CHILDREN IN DR SAIFUL ANWAR HOSPITAL MALANG

Background : Children are defined as stunted if their height-for-age is more than two standard deviations below the WHO Child Growth Standards median or more than fifth percentile below the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) standart. The incidence of stunting is associated with many factors such as nutritional factors,family environment, genetic factor, infection disease, and the incidence of low birth weight. Objectives: To identify the risk factors associated with the incidence of stunting in children hospitalized in dr. saiful anwar malang hospital Material : This is a case-control study. This study was conducted from January to April 2018 and the subject are 354 children 1 month to 18 years old that hospitalized in dr. Saiful Anwar Malang. Data was collected by interviewing those children's parents and measured anthropometric of 102 children as cases and 252 children as controls. Risk factors measured were nutritional status, infection disease, genetic factor, endocrinologic disorder, parent education, parent age, parent occupation, childhood, anemia, albumin, delivery, birth weight, prematurity, exclusive breastfeeding, breastfeeding > 6 months, caregivers and immunizations. The data was analyzed using chi square test and multiple logistic regression. Results : The data showed that the main stunting risk factors is malnutrition (OR = 6,61, 95% CI: 1,32-2,45). The other risk factor have no significant effect. A few note that appear in data is that breastfeeding, anemia, parent education and occupation are correlated with the main risk factor. Conclusions : Malnutrition is the most dominant risk factor for stunting
