THE CORRELATION OF BREASTFEEDING AND PARENTING STYLE TO BULLYING IN CHILDREN OF 13-16 YEARS OLD

Background : Bullying is still an important health issue and a relatively wide-ranging school-age phenomenon. There are less statistical research on bullying in Indonesia. Breastfeeding and parenting style may affect a child's behavior. Unfortunately, the information on the relationship between bulliying in 13-16 years old is insufficient, especially on breastfeeding and parenting style. This study aims to assess of the relationship between breastfeeding and parenting style due to bullying incident especially at the group aged 13-16 years old.
Material : This study used a retrospective design with case control method. The study subjects were adolescent 13-16 years old in Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta Junior High school. The questionnaires were used to determine the breastfeeding pattern and parenting style. Collected data were analyzed by chi square test.The result showed that there was no statistically significant relationship (p>0.05) between breastfeeding pattern and parenting style due to bullying prevalence.
Results : There was no statistically significant relationship between breastfeeding and parenting style to bullying (p =0.136; p = 0.483).Children who didn’t get exclusive breastfeeding have the possibility of 2,563 times more likely to be involved in bullying incident than children who got exclusive breastfeeding. Children who received authoritarian parenting have the possibility of 2,273 times more likely to be involved in bullying prevalence than children who received democratic parenting.
Conclusions : Children who didn’t get exclusive breastfeeding and who received authoritarian parenting have increased bullying prevalence.
