The maintenance of high infant and childhood vaccination rates coupled with continuous monitoring and surveillance is critical for the control of vaccine preventable diseases and for decreasing the morbidity and mortality associated with them. Being a strong vaccine advocate for infants and children is fundamental for ensuring that this population is adequately protected. Examples of the importance of surveillance and advocacy will be discussed.
