Background : The practice of human milk sharing appears to be rising as more women heed messages touting the benefits of breast milk over formula. Online networks have sprung up to facilitate sharing while it worth risking infant’s safety. The aim of the study was to determine women opinion and knowledge about human milk sharing.

However the online milk sharing was found to be inappropriate, since it has a risk of infectious diseases (9.5%), transfer a genetic traits (8.2%), possibility of marriages between milk siblings (10.2%), lack of hygiene (12.2%), or just dislike (10.2%). Knowledge of donor milk were obtained from: health care practitionaire 13.6%, acquantainces 27.9%, website 16.3%, social media online-based peer-to-peer support group 42.2%. Only 16.2% were well informed about donor milk pumping-storing-handling procedure, 44.3% unaware of screened and pasteurisation technique, 39.5% uninformed about the importance of medical test for mother donating their milk, 84.4% stated to get to know the mother or family who give milk donation to anticipate the risk. Among 63.9% heard of human milk bank (HMB), 22.4% and 19.0% approved the establishment of a hospital based HMB as a legitimate source of milk sharing and prefer to use it if available, respectively.
Conclusions : In the current context of the limited availability of HMB, some women may decide to obtained informally online based peer-to-peer milk sharing eventhough their knowledge and risk mitigation was incomplete.
