Children’s rights in Health services in 21st century

Article 13 of the Convention on the Rights of the child declares right to expression as a fundamental right for children while article 12 obligates everyone working with and for children to provide safe and enabling environments for children to participate in making decisions that affect them. Additionally, right to be heard has been recognized as one of the 4 pillars and guiding principles upon which the CRC is grounded. On the other hand, the existing body of evidence supports the link between health and human rights and the significance of the principles and norms of human rights for enhancing health and developmental outcomes for children and achieving health equity. Despite all this, children are still viewed as mere subjects of care within many health care systems and many of their human rights are routinely violated. This presentation addresses some of these issues and presents a model for providing space for children as active participants in their health and treatment plan.
