Background : Vitamin D deficiency in children with congenital hypothyroidism may cause mycocardial dysfunction. The objective of this study is to assess ventricular function in congenital hypothyroidism with vitamin D deficiency. Material : Twenty subjects were selected using consecutive sampling conducted from July to December 2017 in our institution. Inclusion criteria were children aged 1 month - 5 years diagnosed congenital hypothyroidism, which confirmed by thyroid level and thyroid scanning. All subjects already received thyroxin substitution therapy. M-mode echocardiography was used to examine the left ventricular dimension and function. Mann Whitney and Rank spearman test was performed for statistic analysis. Significance test results was determined at p <0.05. Results : 20 children with mean age 33 months old(SD 24,17) who met the inclusion criteria. Mean levels of T3, fT4 and THSs respectively were 1,63; 1,25; 11. Mean Vitamin D levels in deficiency group was 67.94 nmol / L and control group was 96.26 nmol / L. The left ventricular posterior wall in diastolic (p=0,029), end diastolic volume (p=0,008), diastolic interventricular septum (p=0,035), and systolic interventricular septum (p=0,025) were associated with lower vitamin D levels. Conclusions : Decreased left ventricular posterior wall at diastolic, interventricular septum at systolic and diastolic in congenital hypothyroidism was associated with low vitamin D levels.
