CHARACTHERISTIC OF TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN CHILDREN AT EMERGENCY ROOM SANGLAH HOSPITAL DENPASAR IN 2017

Background : Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the world. Most of young people who died in traffic accidents were risky road users such as motorcyclists, cyclists and pedestrians. The aim of this study is to determine the incidence and characteristics of traffic accidents in children at Emergency Room Sanglah Hospital in 2017. Material : This research is a retrospective descriptive research with cross sectional approach that records the characteristics and outcome of traffic accidents in children at Emergency Room Sanglah Hospital in 2017. The basic data of research subjects were obtained from register and medical record. Results : During the period of 2017, there were 1430 traffic accident recorded at the Sanglah Hospital. A total of 17.7% (253 patients) were 1 month - 18 years old. Of 131 people, 107 people (81.7%) aged 11-18 years, 16 people (12.2%) aged 2-10 years and 8 people (6.1%) age 1 month -1 years. About 59.5% (78 people) are male. Most are (55.7%) in high school level. Most of the traffic accidents are motorcycle accidents. More motorcyclists wear helmets at the age of 11-18 years. Head injuries are the most common cases in the age group 1 month-1 year and 11-18 years. Most are motorcycle to motorcycle accident mechanism at the age of 11-18 years. At the age of 2-10 years, the incidence of accidents as pedestrians who were hit by motorcycle ranks second most traffic accidents in their group. Conclusions : Most of traffic accidents are motorcycle accidents in aged of 11-18 years male motorcyclist, with head injury as the most common type of injury among their group
