Background : Leukemia is a malignant transformation of blood progenitor cell, characterized by uncontrolled proliferation leading to bone marrow failure and infiltration to other tissues. TGF-beta, used by endothelial cells in angiogenesis process, is responsible for invasion, progression, and metastasis. This study aimed to assess the effect of chemotherapy on TGF-beta level in ALL. Material : This prospective cohort study was conducted in RS Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo during April until October 2017. 60 patients aged 1 month old -18 years old diagnosed with LLA based on BMP results were divided into 2 groups, LLA Standard Risk (SR) with 30 patients and LLA High Risk (HR) with 30 patients. Results : There were significant differences between TGF-?1 levels before and after induction phase chemotherapy in LLA SR group and HR group with p <0.001. There were significant differences between TGF-?1 levels before chemotherapy in patients with LLA SR and LLA HR with p <0.001. There was a significant difference between TGF-?1 levels after chemotherapy in patients with LLA SR and LLA HR at p <0.001. Conclusions : TGF-? levels after chemotherapy were lower than before chemotherapy, either in standard risk or high risk group. TGF-? levels of high risk were higher than standard risk, either before or after chemotherapy. Chemotherapy affects the angiogenesis process.
