IDENTIFICATION OF RISK FACTORS FOR SEPSIS MORTALITY IN CHILDREN
Rahmawati Rahmawati Fk unhas
Background : Sepsis is the major cause of death in infants and children. Mortality in severely ill patients is strongly associated with multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Therefore, septic diagnostic approach with consideration of risk factors for mortality is urgently needed in order to provide a more progressive treatment to decrease mortality rate. Material : This was a prospective cohort study, conducted at Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital from September 2016 – june 2017. the subjects population comprised the children aged from 1 month of age until 18 years age. A total of 169 sepsis patients were then followed until they went into survivors or non survivors. Bivariate analysis was performed to compare each risk factors on the risk for mortality in sepsis. Multivariate analysis and logistic regression model were performed to predict mortality sepsis. Results : There were 169 subjects, consisted of 84 survivors and 85 non survivors children. Multivariate analysis results showed there were two risk factors independently associated with sepsis mortality : poor nourished (OR 2,60, CI 95% 1,21-5,59) and prokalsitonin level ? 10 ng/ml (OR 12,10, CI 95% 5,74-25,5). Conclusions : Poor nourished and procalcitonin level ? 10 ng/ml are the independent risk factors for mortality sepsis in pediatric
