Background : Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that is still a world health problem and is often found in children. One of the cells that is known to play a major role in this asthma is eosinophils. Eosinophils release various mediators that will damage airway epithelial and cause inflammation.
Material : This research was conducted by taking data section of medical record General Hospital DR. M. Djamil Padang by using retrospective analytic method. The population is pediatric patients diagnosed with asthma treated in the Children's Ward of General Hospital DR. M. Djamil Padang period January 1, 2015 - December 31, 2017. For the analysis of eosinophil relationship with the degree of asthma using Pearson correlation test, with significance p <0.05. Data were analyzed using SPSS software.
Results : In the two year period, there are 60 patients which are used in the study. The results are 40 patients had low normal peripheral blood eosinophil value 0-1% (66,7%), 15 patients had normal peripheral blood eosinophil value 2-4%(15%), 5 patients had high peripheral blood eosinophil value >4%(8%), and there is 58% patient with atopy. There is no significan correlation of eosinophils peripheral blood cells’s value with severity of asthma (p value 0,057)
Conclusions : Peripheral blood eosinophil value in asthma patient is mostly low normal and there is no correlation of eosinophils peripheral blood cells’s value with severity of asthma
Keywords: Severity of Asthma Eosinophil children atopy
