PROFILE OF CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE IN NEONATES TREATED IN PERINATOLOGY WARD DR M DJAMIL HOSPITAL PADANG ON JANUARY 2017 - JANUARY 2018

Background : The heart is a vital organ that plays an important role in infants and children who are experiencing growth and development. Seven to eight babies over 1000 live births were born with congenital heart disease (CHD). Clinical manifestations depend on the severity of the illness ranging from asymptomatic to heart failure. With the discovery of echocardiography many of congenital heart diseases can be detected. We aim to describe the clinical profile of CHD in neonates treated at Perinatology Ward Dr.M.Djamil Hospital Padang from January 2017 until January 2018 includes gestation age, birth weight, sex, clinical symptoms, type of CHD and accompany diseases. Material : Descriptive research based on medical records that treated at Perinatology ward Dr.M.Djamil hospital Padang from January 2017 until January 2018. Diagnose of CHD made based on echocardiography examination. Nevertheless also collected data on gestation age, sex, birth weight, clinical symptoms and accompany diseases Results : Of the 42 neonates who had been diagnosed with CHD through echocardiography examination: 32 neonates (76%) were female; all born through cesarean delivery. There are 20 neonates (48%) very low birth weight and 18 neonates low birth weight (42%) with gestation under 37 weeks. Majority include in complex acyanotic CHD, include in VSD (54%) and ASD (24%), isolated PDA (10%), isolated VSD (5%) and complex cyanotic CHD consist of TOF (8%), DORV (5%) and TGA (2%). Total 28 neonates (67%) in warded with respiratory distress and 14 neonates (33%) having other congenital abnormalities. About 16 neonates (38%) died during treatment. Conclusions : Congenital heart disease in neonates is generally an acyanotic. VSD and ASD are the most common encountered congenital heart disease and dominated by respiratory distress. Prematurity and low birth weight is also a factor that plays a role in congenital heart disease.
