Nephrotic Syndrome in a 6-year-old Girl with Tetralogy of Fallot - A Case Report

Background : This case was reported as a case of nephrotic syndrome in a six year old girl with history of Tetralogy of Fallot. Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) is one of the most common cyanotic congenital heart disease in children. Nephrotic syndrome was reported as the common renal abnormalities in cyanotic congenital heart disease.
Case Presentation Summary : A 6-year-old girl who had been diagnosed with ToF was admitted to the pediatric cardiology clinic of Hermina Hospital Bogor because of oedem for 3 weeks as chief complaint. Physical examination showed oedem on her face and her extrimities. Laboratory examination showed increased cholesterol (274 mg/dl) and protein (+3) was found in her urin. The patient was diagnosed as nephrotic syndrome and received prednisone and furosemide. After 3 days, oedem disappeared and patient was discharged.
Learning Points/Discussion : Patient with cyanotic congenital heart disease can develop renal abnormality like nephrotic syndrome and assessing renal function should be done during treatment.
