Differences in Quality of Life of Children with Infrequent Relapse and Frequent Relapse Nephrotic Syndrome

Background : Nephrotic syndrome is a common disease in children. The syndromes consists of massive proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, edema, and hypercholesterolemia and may lead to relapse and remission episodes, which affect quality of life in children.
Material : This was an observational analytic study with cross-sectional study design in Pediatrics Clinic Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar. It was conducted on January 2016-January 2017. An independent t-test was performed to assess whether there were differences between quality of life patient with infrequent relapse and frequent relapse of nephrotic syndrome, with significance level p <0.05, precision at 95% confidence interval. The children quality of life was measured by the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core Scales Questionnaire.
Results : Subjects consist of 14 infrequent relapse samples and 14 frequent relapse samples. The mean score of the children quality of life based on the parents report was 85.70 (8.96) from the infrequent relapse group and 82.24 (12.56) from the frequent relapse of nephrotic syndrome (p=0.410). Based on the child's report, the children quality of living had reached 88.79 (9.30) from the infrequent relapse group and 82.59 (12.09) from the frequent relapse of nephrotic syndrome (p=0.194).
Conclusions : The results of this study shows there were no significant differences in physical, emotional, social, school, and total quality of life in the children and parents reports of infrequent relapse and frequent relapse nephrotic syndrome.
