QUALITY OF LIFE IN CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE CHILDREN USING ASSESSMENT PEDIATRIC QUALITY OF LIFE INVENTORY™ (PedsQL™)

Background : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is still serious health problem in children with high morbidity affecting children’s quality of life. Riset kesehatan dasar (Riskesdas) 2013 showed the prevalence of CKD patients age more than 15 years in Indonesia is 0.2%. Aim of this study was to assess the quality of life children with CKD as well as relationship with duration of diagnosis, severity, and related factors (demographic factors). Material : A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted. Subjects were CKD children 2-18 years recruited from July 2016- May 2017 through consecutive sampling. Patients and their parents were asked to fill out the PedsQL™ generic score scale version 4.0 questionnaire. Results : A total of 112 children were recruited, quality of life was reported low in 54.5% subjects based on parental reports and 56.3% based on children’s report. The lowest scores studied were school and emotional parameter. Factors related to quality of life children with CKD were duration of diagnosis >60 months (p=0.004), female (p=0.019), and junior high school (p=0.003). Conclusions : More than half children with CKD have low quality of life in general from parental reports and children’s reports. Children who was diagnosed with CKD for more than 60 months, female, and at middle school were associated with low quality of life.
