FACTORS RELATED TO QUALITY OF LIFE IN CHILDREN WITH ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA MAINTENANCE PHASE IN SANGLAH HOSPITAL

Background : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a malignant disease that occurs most often in children. ALL malignancy and its long term therapy will affect the quality of life in children. The purpose of this study was to assess quality of life in ALL children in the maintenance phase chemotherapy and to determine the factors related to their health-related quality of life. Cross sectional study was conducted on children and parents using PedsQL 3.0 cancer module questionnaires.
Material : Fifty parents and 35 patients participated in this study. ALL patients receiving maintenance phase chemotherapy in Sanglah Hospital has good quality of life value. The mean value of the quality of life in this study was 90.5 and 78.2 in the child report on parent reports. Parents tend to report poorer quality of life than patients themselves.
Results : There was no statistically significant differences between factors such as age, sex, nutritional status, parental educational level, economic status, employment status of parents, risk stratification, the incidence of relapse and stage of chemotherapy with the quality of life of ALL children in maintenance phase chemotherapy (p > 0.05). The value was lower in the parental concern to the recurrence of his illness subscale.
Conclusion : Assessment of the quality of life of children with PedsQL 3.0 cancer module questionnaire can be a means of communication, information, and education between health care providers with patients and parents.
