Background : Children with speech delay commonly need undergo hearing test, such as otoacoustic emission (OAE). Identification of children with speech delay at risk of hearing disorder was led to optimal intervention. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between abnormality of OAE with several conditions. Material : A cross sectional study was performed on children with speech delay at Child Development Clinic of Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya from January 2017 to March 2018. The data of several conditions, such as head circumference, hemoglobin level, and thyroid function were obtained from medical record. The result of OAE was grouped to normal and abnormal. Statistical analysis using correlation test with significant p<0.05. Results : A total of 136 children were included, 90 (66.2%) were male and 46 (33.8%) were female. The mean age was 36.5 ± 26 months. Abnormality of OAE was found in 34 (25%) children who has a weak positive correlation with microcephaly [14(41%); r=0.211; p=0.012] and anemia [3(8.8%); r=0.196; p=0.020], but has not correlate with central hypothyroidism [7(20.6%);(r=0.095; p=0.263]. Conclusions : Children with speech delay who have microcephaly or anemia should be suspected of hearing loss as the cause of the disorder.
