Background : Global Developmental Delay (GDD) is a type of delay in two or more developmental domains. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most common congenital infection among newborn with great morbidities, include developmental delay. The aim of this study is to determine the correlation between CMV infection and GDD. Material : A cross-sectional study was performed on children under 5 years old with GDD at Child Development Clinic of Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya from September 2016 to September 2017. The CMV infection data were obtained from medical record and categorized into IgM and IgG anti CMV. Statistical analysis using correlation test with significant p<0,05. Results : A total of 50 children were included, 26 (52%) were male and 24 (48%) were female. The mean age was 17.24 ± 14.405 months. The IgM antiCMV was detected in 17.78% of children with gross motor delay (r=0.145; p=0.313), 11.11% of those with fine motor delay (r=-0.214; p=0.136), 17.78% of those with speech delay (r=0.145; p=0.313) and 12.5% of those with personal-social delay (r=-0.191; p=0.184). Meanwhile, IgG antiCMV was detected in 91.11% (r=-0.098; p=0.497), 97.22% (r=0.309; p=0.029), 91.11% (r=0.098; p=0.497) and 92.50% (r= 0.037; p= 0.799) respectively. Conclusions : The most affected developmental domain in children with GDD and CMV infection is fine motor.
