QUALITY OF LIFE CHILDREN WITH EPILEPSY AND FACTORS THAT AFFECTING IN OUT-PATIENTS CARE IN PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGY POLICLINIC M DJAMIL HOSPITAL

Background : Epilepsy has been known to influence the quality of life (QoL) in children. The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life (QoL) in epileptic children and to identify the clinical and demographic factors affecting the quality of life in patients with epilepsy in M Djamil Hospital Padang Material : A cross-sectional observational questionnaire based study, including 49 parents from children with epilepsy who were on anti-epileptic drugs on follow up for minimum 6 months, aged 4 until 18 years. Quality of Life Children with Epilepsy questionnaire (QOLCE) was administered to those include in the study. The data was analyzed using Statistical Package to Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25 and statistical test were using Pearson correlation, t test, ANOVA. Significance value is P<0.05 Results : Children aged 4 year until 18 years who met the inclusion criteria had enrolled the study. The mean (SD) total score of quality of life was 62.36 (9.48). Children aged 4-9 years (mean 66.23 (SD 7.43), p<0.05), and consumed one kind of anti-epileptic drug (mean 64.27 (SD 9.03), p<0.05) had higher scores in QOLCE. Parents income (p=0.02), age of first onset (p=0.002) influencing in higher score of QoL, general health is affected by age of first onset (p=0.01), and language was affected by amount of anti-epileptic drugs (p=0.03). Conclusions : In this study we found children with epilepsy aged 4 until 9 years had a better QoL score, and affects by amount of drugs consumed by the patients. Parents income, age of first onset influencing in higher score of QoL, general health is affected by age of first onset, and language was affected by amount of anti-epileptic drugs.
