Status epilepticus and epilepsy: when seizure becomes uncontrolled Experience in Malaysia - Role of Epileptic Surgery

Status epilepticus (SE) is a life-threatening neurological emergency associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The aetiology for SE in a small number of these patients may be focal lesions and surgically remediable. Over the years several case reports and small case series describing the effectiveness of resectivesurgery in aborting refractory status epilepticus in this setting have been. In addition to resectivesurgery, use of vagus nerve stimulator have also been described to halt status epilepticus. This talk will illustrate a case of epilepsy surgery performed for refractory SE, and describe our experience with epilepsy surgery in general.
