ASSOCIATION OF PEDIATRIC END-STAGE LIVER DISEASE SCORE WITH MORTALITY IN BILIARY ATRESIA PATIENTS UNDERGOING KASAI PORTOENTEROSTOMY

Background : Biliary atresia (BA) was a lethal disease before Kasai portoenterostomy (KPE) procedure was worldwide known. Results of KPE is related to the histologic degree of liver fibrosis which can be calculated using PELD score before KPE procedure. Objective: To determine the association between PELD score and mortality in BA patients undergoing KPE procedure. Material : A case-control study retrieving data from medical record was conducted. BA patients who were diagnosed based on intraoperative cholangiography at Dr. Sardjito Hospital in January 2015 to December 2017 were eligible. The relationship between PELD score and mortality in BA patients were analyzed by fisher’s exact analysis. Results : There were 35 children recruited, 23 (65,7%) subjects were died and 12 (34,3%) were survived after KPE, mean age when undergoing KPE was 3 months old. Poor PELD Score (score > 15) were detected in 13 (37.1%) subjects and 22 (62.9%) had good PELD score. Fisher’s exact analysis of PELD Score relationship with mortality in BA patient undergoing KPE procedure showed p value = 0.247 (p <0.05). Conclusions : There was no significant association between PELD score with mortality in BA patient undergoing KPE procedure.
