The Outcome Of Children wih Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia In Prof Dr R D Kandou Hospital

Background : In recent years the prognosis for childhood leukemia has improved, especially for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the survival rate of ALL patients in Manado.
Material : All children with ALL age 0-18 years from January 2012 to December 2016 were included in this study. We collected data retrospectively from ALL patient who treated Estella Pediatric Cancer Center including sex, age, category of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and treatment outcome. Survival rate was calculated by Kaplan Meier method. Statistical differences were determined using a log-rank test.
Results : There was 66 patients with ALL, male 54.5% and female 45.5% . The mean age at diagnosis was 5.7 years. There were 28 (42.4% ) high risk (HR) ALL comprised of survivor 25.1%, death 50%, drop out 7.1%, relapse 7.1%, and on treatment 10.7%. There were 38 (57.5%) standard risk (SR) ALL comprised of survivor 31.9%, died 15.7%, drop out 13.1% , relapsed 7.8% , and on treatment 31.5%. The overall survivor rate of ALL in Manado was 66.1%. The overall survival between HR (46.2%) and SR (81.8%) was significantly different (p= 0.004).
Conclusions : The overall survival rate of pediatric ALL in Manado is improved.
