Background : Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is an acquired coagulation abnormality, which is characterised by thrombocytopenia, decreased levels of clotting factors and increased fibrinolytic activity. DIC is associated with both haemorrhage and microvascular thrombosis, which may lead to organ damage and death. A variety of conditions and severe illness such as malignancy could be the background of DIC. The aim of this study was to know the characteristics of DIC in Leukemia patients
Material : A descriptive analytic study carried out from medical record in Dr.Kariadi Hospital Semarang between 2016-2017. All DIC cases diagnosed with DIC score
Results : DIC was diagnosed in 17 patients, consist of 12 patients from total 162 patients of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (0,07%) and 5 patients from total 17 patients acute myeloid leukemia (29,4%) . We observed platelet count ? 5000 in 12 patients (70,6%), gastrointestinal bleeding in 11 patients (64,7%), febrile neutropeni in 11 patients (64,7%), imbalance electrolyte in 11 patients (64,7%), absolute neutrofil count (ANC) ? 500 in 9 patients (51,72%), sepsis in 8 patients (47,1%), hyperleucocyitosis in 7 patients (41,2%)
Conclusions : The incidence of DIC is much higher in AML patients than in ALL. The dominant clinical appearance accompanies of DIC in leukemia were severe thrombocypenia, GIT bleeding and febrile neutropenia
