Background : Malaria is an infectious disease caused by plasmodium parasites. The disease is naturally transmitted through the female Anopheles mosquito bites. The current antimalarial treatment is a radical treatment by eradicating all stages, includes gametocyte stage. In Indonesia using combination of antimalarials. The purpose of combination therapy is to prevent the occurrence of Plasmodium resistance to antimalarials.
Case Presentation Summary : A 7-year and 2-month-old girl admitted to the hospital with chief complaint fever since 5 days ago. The paroxysms fever with an interval 24-48 hour (Tertian Fever), headache, anorexia, history of lived in malaria endemic areas (Timika) and had been infected with vivax malaria 5 years ago were noted. Physical examination findings: Enlargement of spleen (schuffner 1), Rumple Leede was noticed. Laboratory findings RDT positive to Malaria, DDR (Positive Plasmodium Vivax number of parasites 1389/ul blood), IgM/IgG anti-Dengue undetected. Treatment: Combination of antimalarials Primaquine 6,5 mg PO qDay for 14 days, Dihidroartemisinine 50mg + Piperaquine 320 mg/ PO qDay for 3 days. After 3 days of hospitalization, her clinically condition was improving and no more plasmodium vivax founded.
Learning Points/Discussion : Malaria is an infectious disease caused by plasmodium parasites rarely in Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital. History taking, physical examination and laboratory findings may diagnose of malaria. The current malaria treatment using combination of antimalarials.
