Background : Indonesia were committed to realize the measles elimination goal in 2020. However, new cases were constantly found across regions. It is necessary to study the factors contributing to it. Material : This is a descriptive cross sectional study done in Kalisari (East Jakarta) in 2016. The study was done by interviewing 3 groups of subject, namely 1) the guardians of children affected by measles and those who came to Kalisari Community Health Center (CHC) during November 28 – December 6 2016, 2) the staff involved in the measles surveillance program and 3) the headmasters and teachers of several kindergartens/school affected by measles. Results : As much as 37 subjects enrolled in this study, consisting of 8 parents whom had a child with measles in 2016 (from a total of 24 children affected by measles), 19 parents who came to Kalisari CHC, 6 healthcare staff, and 4 headmasters or teachers in the territory of Kalisari village. Half of the parents who were interviewed (52%) had no idea that measles is a very contagious disease, and only 18.5% correctly stated that measles is an airborne disease. Additionally, only 7.4% of them knew that measles could cause death, while only 18.5% knew that measles could be prevented by immunization. The interview done with one of the school representative revealed that 20-25% of the parents in their school were anti-vaccine. The healthcare staff stated several obstacles regarding the surveillance program including incomplete patient’s address and poor motivation to fill in the complicated surveillance form. Conclusions : Several factors hampering the measles elimination program in Indonesia were identified. One of the most important is the lack of knowledge regarding measles disease. The impact of this factor along with the emergence of anti-vaxxers and the inappropriate execution of the program needs to be evaluated to achieve the measles elimination goal.
